Men Plead Guilty to Creating Service That Bypassed Multi-Factor Authentication

Three individuals, Callum Picari, Vijayasidhurshan Vijayanathan, and Aza Siddeeque, have pleaded guilty to running OTP.Agency, an online platform that allowed cybercriminals to bypass multi-factor authentication (MFA) used by various banks and services. OTP.Agency was designed to help criminals intercept one-time passcodes (OTPs) that are typically used to secure online transactions. By using this service, fraudsters could gain access to victims' bank accounts and conduct unauthorized transactions. The platform charged users a subscription fee, with different pricing plans offering varying levels of access to MFA bypass tools.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) began investigating the website in June 2020 and discovered that it had targeted over 12,500 individuals between September 2019 and March 2021. The three men behind OTP.Agency played distinct roles in the operation, with Picari being the main developer and owner, while Siddeeque handled promotion and technical support. After their arrest, the platform was taken down, and the suspects initially denied their involvement, but later admitted to the charges. They are due to be sentenced in November 2024, and their case serves as a warning to others involved in similar criminal activities.
