Uchpa Reel (with English Subtitles)

Uchpa, is a Peruvian band of blues rock fusion in Quechua with more than 25 years of career in the musical scene. The vocalist Fredy Ortiz, a retired police officer, fought against the terrorism in the 80's. From these experiences, the name of the band is born, Uchpa, which means in Quechua, ashes; "Ashes is what's left after a war," says Fredy.

Uchpa not only fuses blues rock with huayno but also jarawis, huaylias, pumpines and more Andean musical expressions. "We do not rock the ande, we make the rock in an Andean way" clarifies Marcos Maizel, guitarist and musical director of the band.

The band, in addition to offer their art, also is seeking to create awareness in the new generations about our Andean past and the Quechua language, by offering in a new format, music which, in some cases, it doesn’t even have an official record, rescuing huaynos chacra songs such as “Corazón Contento”(Happy Heart) and “Chachaschay”. And now blending blues rock with the scissors dance. The band's message is identity.
