Emmet Gowin on photographing Mount St. Helens

Perhaps there's something to be said about photographing "the wrong thing." In this video, Emmet Gowin describes the experience of first photographing Mount St. Helens in 1980 and details how he witnessed change firsthand, as he photographs the same spot to document how it changed after just one day.

This video was created in collaboration with our friends and partners at the Mount St. Helens Institute for the lesson "Sediment Moves through our Community." https://www.mshinstitute.org/learn/classroom-resources/overview.html
