How did life arise on earth? ☄️ 🌱 #allsciencenofiction #PacificNorthwestScience

Researchers at the University of Washington have found a spot in the Pacific Northwest that has the right conditions to spontaneously create organic compounds.

It’s called Last Chance Lake, and it’s a few hundred miles north of Seattle.

Last Chance is a shallow soda lake that has really high concentrations of Phosphorus - which is necessary to create things like DNA.

That means lakes like this could be where Earth saw the first sparks of life.

To learn more about this discovery and other recent breakthroughs made by researchers in the Pacific Northwest with this roundup by Jes Burns, creator of OPB’s "All Science, No Fiction." vis t https://www.opb.org/show/all-science-no-fiction/
