Single mum in a foreign city

Raising a child takes great responsibility, let alone somewhere other than home. Valeria Tangaeva is a 26-year-old single mum from Russia, finance has always been at the back of her mind while living in Hong Kong, all she hopes for her child is the best support she can give.

“I just want her to be happy and I want to show her that work is important,” she adds.

When she came to Hong Kong again after her first visit in 2018, she fell in love, got married, and had a child. Her ex-husband is a local and has eased her way to living here. However, in 2022 when they separated, she had to take it all in on her own. “It was like quite a complicated time for me because of a separation and a work conflict,” she says. “And then I still needed to be a mother.”
