I lived in mundelein north of Chicago by an hour. I had a beautiful magnolia tree in my front yard. it was full of ants and big chunks of it were always cracking off. I was amazed at how hard the wood was. I sold that home and recently moved to Las vegas. I really miss the tree and have heard that the people who bought the house cut the tree down. this made me very sad, and I can only hope that they plant another one. it grew very well and the beautiful white and pink flowers were stunning to behold. a great addition to any yard, seen more often in the South than in the cold North.
