If you want to get power down in the low notes, I want you to try and forcibly get down into the lower register.

Try and work on getting that chest voice nice and thick as you go further down in the range.

That way, once you get the flip there you can work on making it smoother, although there are plenty of singers who like the flip and use it plenty in their own music.
