FRONTIER ISLAND | SURVIVAL | Devlog #4 — Attachment-Aware Icons, Inventory Polish, Slot Validation

Here’s a look at the latest inventory and weapon attachment workflow I’ve been building in Unreal Engine 5 for Frontier Island. This update focuses on attachment-aware weapon icons, so the Supreme pistol and Supreme rifle now visually update in the inventory when attachments are equipped or removed.

This pass includes authored icon variants for different weapon setups, including the reflex sight, suppressor, extended magazine, laser module, and rifle stock. When attachments change, the inventory slot, hotbar slot, drag icon, and selected weapon preview now stay in sync with the actual equipped state instead of showing a static weapon icon.

I also fixed invalid attachment drops. If a pistol attachment is dragged onto the rifle, or a rifle attachment is dragged onto the pistol, the item is now rejected properly and stays in the inventory instead of disappearing. This makes the attachment flow safer and easier to test while the modular weapon system continues to grow.

The attachment slots also received cleaner sci-fi placeholder icons, making it easier to read which slot is for sights, muzzle attachments, magazines, lasers, stocks, and other future attachment types.

Everything shown is being implemented directly inside the project’s Unreal UI, inventory, hotbar, and gameplay code as part of the core survival systems.
