Heroic NY Trooper Returns Fire After Being Shot During Traffic Stop | Bodycam Footage
On June 16, 2023, New York State Trooper Richard Albert conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 88 in Duanesburg for a vehicle exceeding 100 mph. As he approached, the passenger, 32-year-old Nelson Troche, fired a handgun, striking Trooper Albert in the shoulder. Despite his injury, Albert returned fire and pursued the suspects.
The confrontation led to a chain-reaction crash involving a pickup truck and a log truck. The suspects attempted to flee, with Troche eventually dying by suicide and his accomplice taken into custody.
In recognition of his bravery, Trooper Albert was named the 2024 Trooper of the Year by the American Association of State Troopers.
