We ate ROSES For A Month Thanks To My DAD

"My dad is totally unromantic and practical. I know he loves my mum, but I've never seen them hold their hands or express their feelings. And my mum is absolutely different: she loves women novels and all soft things. I still can’t get how these two people got together.

As I can remember, my mum has always demanded gifts, surprises and a little bit of romance from my dad. But he ignored it and gave her only some necessary things as presents. And there were two rea-sons. First, my dad thought it was a nonsense to buy something unnecessary. Second, we didn't have much money. Only my dad earned a living in our family.

One day my mum went really mad. It turned out that the husband of one of her teacher-mates arranged a romantic evening in Paris on their wedding anniversary. And the next day another teacher-mate got a romantic surprise from her boyfriend - a parachute jumping together. Mum called my dad on every-thing – pans for their wedding anniversary, tea sets for her birthdays, and the fact that for their whole family life she didn’t even get a rose.

Scandals at home is not what a teenage girl needs. So I tried to spend most of my time anywhere but at home.

A week later, exactly on a pay day, dad brought... well, not brought… he pulled in two big boxes full of red roses on long stems! Mom got stunned at first, but then she screamed like a teenage girl and jumped on dad’s arms.

I think, he was just trolling and mocking her. When mum realized that this month we are going to eat only roses, all the romance was totally gone.

Finally, we made a delicious rose jam. We put it into beautiful jars and my mother took her «master-piece» to work to treat her teacher-mates. Then miracles started rolling like a snowball. Her teacher-mates tasted the jam and asked my mum to sell them some jars. Mum lied something about elite roses, rejuvenating effect and manual work and sold 10 jars for 30$ each. She earned 300$. We still had 30 empty small jars and many roses. We cooked jam again.

Mum felt as a real businesswoman. She bought more roses (we had somewhat of a flower warehouse not far from us where they sold roses for a penny). She also bought oranges and cinnamon. We started cooking again".
