Nawruz - the ancient Spring New Year holiday, a holiday of warmth and new life - is celebrated in Uzbekistan on March 21, on the day the spring exuinox.
Today Nawruz is one of the major state holidays in Uzbekistan. The people thoroughly prepare for it beforehand: clean the streets, homes... and their hearts. With the day to come, they cook traditional Nawruz dishes. They believe that the way they celebrate Nawruz influences their lives through the whole year to follow. Hence, they try to have as much fun as possible on the holiday, organizing mass outdoor activities with songs, dances, fun games, various contests and competitions attracting very many spectators. The spring air seems to be saturated with people's new hopes on Nawruz.
