Gran Canaria | Arucas, Firgas, Teror and San Mateo

Welcome to the historical Gran Canaria. Yet to be overcrowded by masstourism, these towns hides great historical treasures of immense value. Other places in Gran Canaria offers similar historical value, but these are my favorite INLAND island towns.

Arucas is the most north eastern located town, and closest to the airport and Las Palmas, the Capital. During the spanish ''conquest'' they burned down the town of Arehucas, and not before several hundred years after was Arucas considered an actual town. It is famous for the church/cathedral San Juan Bautista and don't miss out on a walk in the Gourie park.

Firgas is a small town famous for it's waterfall/levada construction in the middle of town. Surrounded by art both on the walls and floors. Take a stroll in the town center and the area around San Roque

Teror is lively and beautiful. Big open spaces in the plaza area around the church serves as the towns social gathering spot - especially during the sunday market - but don't forget to dissapear into the smaller streets with the historical buildings with it's famous balconies.

Vega de San Mateo has less historical and picturesque areas than the other towns. But is famous for agriculture and also has it's own famous weekend-markets.
