Native American Elder Grandmother Nancy Andry, who is of Algonquin/French Canadian Descent, is a Sundancer, Pipe Carrier and Storyteller. In this interview together with Oglala Lakota Sioux Sundance Chief Lessert Moore, Grandma Nancy describes how she has been instructed by Native American elders in Canada to share and teach the Nbi Wabo Water Song on behalf of protecting the world's waters. At a critical time in history when temperatures across the globe are increasing in response to climate change, according to UNESCO, over 5 billion people may face water shortages by the year 2050. Water is life — Mni Wiconi — all life depends on water. If we continue to pollute and waste the world's water resources with industries like hydro-fracking and dangerous pipeline spills, toxic chemical byproducts dumped into rivers and watersheds, plastics suffocating our oceans, and more — many generations to come will suffer the burden. The Water Song is gifted to women and girls especially, encouraging the shared activation of efforts to protect, conserve and regenerate what clean water we have — and to bring about healing of the sacred hoop of life.
