Iceland in Summer

Last summer we spent 5 weeks exploring Iceland in our Land Rover Defender, Olaf, as preparation for potential future phototours. This allowed us to go far into the less-visited, primordial interior of the country which is impossible in the winter, and inadvisable in the summer without a 4X4, as it involves considerable off-road driving on challenging dirt tracks. We tried to avoid the worst of the tourist hot-spots on the south coast and the Golden Circle which have been filmed to death, and although we experienced one of the worst summers in living memory, we managed to shoot some of the incredible waterfalls in the north of the country, the Atlantic puffin colony at the vertiginous sea cliffs at Látrabjarg, the surreal inland black sand deserts and hydrothermal regions, and the shattered edge of the enormous Vatnajökull ice cap.
