Module 7 Lesson 2. Password Security
Your password is the front door to your digital life. A weak password is the single biggest reason accounts get hacked.
What Makes a Password Strong?
Long — at least 12 characters.
Mixed — letters (upper and lower), numbers, and symbols.
Unique — never reuse it on more than one site.
Unguessable — no birthdays, pet names, "password", "qwerty", or "12345".
The Three-Random-Words Trick (NCSC recommended)
Pick three unrelated words: Coffee-Window-River-72 is strong and memorable.
Password Managers
A password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, Apple Keychain, Google Password Manager) stores all your passwords behind one master password. It:
Generates strong unique passwords for every site.
Auto-fills them when you log in.
Warns you if any of your saved passwords have leaked.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA / 2FA)
A second check after your password — usually a code from an app or text. Turn it on for email and banking at minimum. Even if your password is stolen, the attacker can't get in.
Try This
Pick one important account (start with your email). Change the password to a strong one using three random words, and turn on multi-factor authentication.
