If we combine the two waves so that the total electric field is E = E_1 + E_2, give the Jones vector of the resultant wave and state its polarization. (b) If the electric fields of the two waves in (a) are given by E_1 = E_0cos(wt - k_zx) - E_0sin(wt - k_zy) and E_2 = -E_0sin(wt - k_z) - E_0cos(wt - k_z)y, what is the polarization of the resultant wave? (c) Given that E_0 = 1 V/m, what is the intensity of the resultant plane wave in (b) if it travels in free space?
