Cécile Chaminade - Les Willis, op.42

Project: Making nice, completely unknown pieces more known.
This very beautiful caprice by Chaminade is like a vitamin pill for the soul. There are so relaxing passages in it. She has a style of writing, where the fingers almost play the piece by itself. I am not going to lie that I am surprised this second attempt playing it (from first sight) got to be the recording I upload.

Concerning Chaminade, I found some information on the german site http://mugi.hfmt-hamburg.de/old/A_lexartikel/lexartikel.php?id=cham1857:

She was born 1857 in Paris and died in 1944 in Monte Carlo (Monaco). Ambroise Thomas said about her, when she was around 25 years old: "This is extraordinary! She is not a young girl, who is composing, she is a componist!".

Chaminade had mostly concerts in France, but she also visited Germany, Austria, GB, Canada, USA, Greece, Turkey and so on. She was very productive and wrote around 400 compositions, almost all being published when she was still alive. Her music can be described by clear and nice melodies with obvious structures and mild chromatic harmonies, making it "typically french". Although her composition were seen as too traditional and not modern enough, she was a progessive and decisive women, making her carriere and earning her money as composer. Her works were forgotten in the 19th century, because of the general rejection of the french-romantic music. Sadly, her biography does not look so well beginning from 1912 when her mother died. She composed less works, and worked a physically exhausting job at Côte d'Azur.
Played on my really bad keyboard 20 minutes after first sight. So... yeah, I just want to make these pieces and artists more known. Go and play in your concerts! :)
