Ukrainian Activists Share Their Wartime Experiences (4/20/23)

Join the Harriman Institute for a panel discussion with three Ukrainian activists, who will share their experiences of organising and volunteering during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In a context where over 40% of Ukraine’s civilian population are thought to be volunteering to support the war effort (Onuch et al, 2023) this event provides a valuable opportunity to hear first-hand from Ukrainian activists about the challenges and accomplishments of their war-time work. We will be joined virtually by three activists: Nikita Grigorov, a Ukrainian writer and journalist, who has been working as a volunteer in the First Volunteer Mobile Hospital since the beginning of the 2022 invasion; Anna Chernova, program director with the Zaporizhzhia charity Posmishka, which has been supporting women and children affected by the war; and Katernya Arisoy, founder of an animal shelter in Bakhmut, who has been working to rescue animals impacted by the war. This hybrid event is open to the public and you are welcome to join us online or in person. The event will be moderated by Emma Mateo.
