Judge not, Support Gender Identity and Sexual Diversity | Dr. Akkai Padmashali | TEDxLavelleRoad

In this ultra modern age, it is a shame that people are judged based on their choices of gender and sexuality. It is time we as a society break out of the stigma of judging people for who they are. Lets not kill the voices that seek to be heard. Lets build a future that includes everyone without any distinctions.
Dr Akkai Padmashali is a female Transgender, social activist whose journey is one of courage and determination.
In 2014, she co-founded Ondede, an organization of feminists, activists, thinkers, and academics who recognized the need to converge the interests of three movements in the country – children’s rights, women’s rights, and the rights of sexual minorities.
In October 2014, Padmashali was the only one person from India to be invited by the International Bar Association to address the social and legal status of sexual minorities at the national conference in Tokyo, Japan. In 2015, Padmashali became the first transgender awarded the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, the second highest civilian honor presented by the Karnataka state government for her work in Social Sector. She received the Honorary Doctorate by the Indian Virtual University for Peace and Education, Switzerland.
Padmashali is the first Transwoman in the world to receive Ashoka Global Fellowship. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
