CLIP 2021 CRU REDIMORE IRPINIA AGLIANICO DOC ENG

From Antonio Mastroberardino’s passion for knowledge and for the Aglianico grape, the most noble and widespread in Campania. Redimore is a modern wine with ancient roots; it is the rediscovering
of the expression of a variety, Aglianico, in its features of more than a century ago, before Phylloxera hit Europe.

About twenty years ago, Mastroberardino started a project of study and research on the centuries-old vineyards of Aglianico grape. Ungrafted plants, survived the attack of phylloxera of the early '900, because planted in very loose and sandy soil, surrounded by forests of oak and chestnut trees. Ideal vineyards to deepen the knowledge about the characteristics of this cultivar, among the most ancient and noble of our Country and of the entire wine growing and wine making world.

The selection started in 2000, with two years of observations, identifying biotypes with the best features in the old vineyard. This first selection was followed in 2004 by the planting of a new vineyard in the Mirabella Eclano estate, made with recovered material from century-old vines and became the starting field for the next clonal selection.

The selection process identified 30 biotypes to start the next phase of recording. Of these, only one fully passed all the selection tests provided for by the Ministry of Agriculture, being perfectly healthy and having fine quality features. The distinctive agronomic characteristics of this clone are: medium-small, loose bunch, medium-sized berry, thick skin, contained fertility. A high content of anthocyanin is reached during maturation, with a balanced composition in tannins and polyphenols and excellent resistance to diseases.

The Redimore Irpinia Aglianico DOC, creature of this extraordinary project, is the expression of old biotypes of Aglianico grown and vinified in a modern way.
In 2008, from the vineyard of Mirabella Eclano, we had the first small harvest for the production of this wine, which represents a new perspective for Aglianico and Irpinia.

During 2021 we achieved a further important result, one of a kind: the approval of the only clone that passed the selection. A clone of Aglianico that bears the name of the man who dedicated his whole life to the recovery, protection and exploitation of native grapes of Campania, generating the revival movement of the native viticulture in the whole of southern Italy. This clone is called VCR 421 Antonio Mastroberardino and it is registered in the Italian National Register of Vine Varieties with publication in the Official Gazette no. 43 of 20 February 2021.

Deep ruby red, on the nose it's complex and intense, with hints of red fruits, especially strawberries and raspberries, and some nuances of vanilla, tobacco, cocoa and coffee. On the palate, warm, enveloping, well-structured, with a long persistence and a remarkable softness.
