Carl Zeiss Delturis 8x24 (Early Version) | Binoculars | Fernglas | бинокль
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss, Jena (Germany)
Application: Civil
Era: 1920s
Magnification: 8x
Objective Lens Size: 24mm
Field of View: 8.75° - 154m at 1000m
Specifics: In 1917, Zeiss employee Heinrich Erfle developed a wide-field eyepiece that significantly expanded the field of view of binoculars. After the end of the First World War, this eyepiece was installed in civilian binoculars. These binoculars are the Deltrintem/Deltrentis in 8x30, the Delactem/Delactis in 8x40 and the Delturisem/Delturis in 8x24.
While the Deltrintem/Deltrentis was in production until the 1990s, production of the Delactem/Delactis and the Delturisem/Delturis only lasted until the 1930s. The Delturisem (Center focus) and the Delturis (Individual focus) were produced in 2 versions from 1920 to 1932. The first version, which can be seen in this video, was only produced for a very short time (about 2 years). It differs from the successor version in that it has a thicker housing and is shorter overall. In addition, the first version has smaller ocular lenses. The eyepiece of the later version is very similar to that of the Deltrintem/Deltrentis.
According to the book "Zeiss Handferngläser 1919 - 1946" by Hans Seeger, this example, which has the serial number 1153219, was manufactured in 1922 in a series of 200 units (1153201 to 1153400).
The optical properties of the late version are said to be better than those of the first version. However my late version Delturisem was not significantly better on a test though. But the late version Deltrintem eyepieces are at least better suited for filming - I had a bit of trouble getting a good picture on this video and some of the recordings turned out to be blurry.
