Blues and Royals - Guard Mount at Horse Guards 30 June 2013

The Changing of The Queen's Life Guards occurs daily at Horse Guards Parade every day at 11am, 10am Sundays. The previous 24 hour Guard Mount (the Old Guard) exchanges with the next 24 hour Guard Mount (the New Guard). The duty is shared between the two most senior regiments in the British Army, The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals. On 30 June 2013, The Blues and Royals mounted their last guard before going on a 3 week summer camp.
The building of Horse Guards is located between Horse Guards Parade to the west and Whitehall to the east. Once a tiltyard for jousting tournaments, the site was across the road from the Royal Palace of Whitehall (predecessor to St James's Palace which in turn was predecessor to Buckingham Palace) and had barracks buildings for the personal body guard of Henry VIII in the 1500's. In 1664 a brick Horse Guards building was built on the site however it proved to be of inadequate size and durability, and was replaced by the current building in 1754.
