Ottumwa police: Truck backs over 8-year-old, kills child

A child was killed Tuesday after a truck backed over him, according to the Ottumwa Police Department.

First responders arrived around 12:25 p.m. to the East Alley of the 200 Block of North Hancock and Dewey Street in Ottumwa to find the 8-year-old who died due to the incident.

The truck accidentally backed over the child, who was riding a bike, in the traveled portion of the alley, police said.

The Ottumwa Police Department along with Iowa Sate Patrol will continue to investigate the incident, but no charges have been filed at this time.
