EU Claims Starvation is Being Weaponised in Gaza
As increasingly desperate scenes continue to emerge from Gaza, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell tells the UN that starvation is being used as a weapon of war in the territory.
While some aid is being delivered by sea and air, the UN says it cannot fully replace delivery by land. The UN blames Israeli military restrictions for being unable to bring in enough aid by road. It says 576,000 people in Gaza are on the brink of famine, with babies and children most at risk.
Israel has continued to claim it is not limiting entry of aid into Gaza. It blames aid agencies for not effectively distributing supplies to those who need it.
Six trucks full of aid from the World Food Programme did manage to enter Gaza on Tuesday night. The Israeli military said it allowed trucks to use a new route through a gate in the Israel-Gaza border fence. The trucks contained enough food to feed 25,000 people in Gaza City. But many fear this is just a drop in the ocean compared to what will be required to prevent wider starvation.
