Akrum Wadley is one of my favorite players in the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s a dynamic runner when he has the ball in his hands and he’s one of the most scheme versatile running backs in the class. I actually still remember the first game I watched him play live. It was the Iowa game against Michigan when the Hawkeyes pulled off the upset beating the undefeated Wolverines. That game was my first glimpse of his potential and it made me really excited to scout him over a year later.
In this video, I broke down Wadley as a prospect. What sets him apart is his vision and quickness in space. The level of patience he shows and how he sets up his cuts allows him fit in any offensive system; however, while I think he has an insane amount of talent to be an every down back, his frame will cause people concerns. He’s roughly 5’10” and 190 pounds which is too light to be an every down back in the NFL. If you factor in all of these traits, I still gave him a late second round grade in this draft.
For his pro comparison, his ability and running style reminds me a lot of LeSean McCoy. They both loose hips with the natural talent to create in space. McCoy was 10 pounds heavier when he entered the NFL, but the talent that these two running backs possess is undeniable.
