Setting up my new watercolour palette with professional paints! | palette colour scheme
Hello again!
In today’s video, I’ll be filling a new watercolour palette with 33 colours that don’t get used enough – because I prefer having my paints in pans ready to go!
Here are the main points I think are important when considering making your own watercolour palette:
- Range of colours; make sure you have a variety of tones, and have a cool and warm tone of each primary colour
- Consider the style of palette; wells make it easy to activate and use paint, pans are a good standard too – I use them in my main studio palette!
- Make a swatch sheet – it doesn’t have to be neat, but it will definitely help make painting that bit easier, and less of a guessing game of colours
- Make unusual colour schemes – this is the perfect chance to make the unusual palette of your dreams; you don’t have to stick to the style I chose, you can have as many or as few colours as you wish, and make a little colour challenge for yourself!
- Make sure to mix any separated binder back into the paint. This separation will not affect the paint quality during use, so long as it has been mixed back in to a good ratio of pigment/binder.
That’s some of the main things to think about when making your own watercolour palette! I absolutely love making my own palettes, either by filling paint pans and wells from tubes, or buying handmade watercolours from artisans.
Thanks for watching!
