Rika KIHIRA vs Alena KOSTORNAIA: TRIPLE AXEL (3A)

Rika Kihira (Japanese: 紀平 梨花; born 21 July 2002) is a Japanese figure skater. Kihira is the seventh ladies skater to have landed the triple Axel jump in an International Skating Union competition, the first ever woman to land a triple Axel-triple Toeloop combination, the first woman to land eight clean triples in a free skate, the second woman to land four clean triples in the short program, and the third woman to land twelve clean triples in one competition (all the maximum allowed under the Zayak rule).

Kihira is a former world record holder for the ladies' short program, which she set at 82.51 at the 2018–19 Grand Prix Final and held until she was surpassed by Alena Kostornaia at the 2019 NHK Trophy.

As at 20 April 2020, Kihira is currently the highest ranked ladies figure skater in the world by the International Skating Union.

Aliona Sergeyevna Kostornaia (Russian: Алёна Сергеевна Косторная, born 24 August 2003) is a Russian figure skater. Kostornaia is the tenth woman in history to have landed the triple Axel jump in a senior international competition. She is the third woman after teammate Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Rika Kihira of Japan to attempt and land the maximum number of triple jumps allowed in one senior international competition: four in the short program and eight in the long program (see Zayak rule). She first accomplished this at the 2019 Internationaux de France, and later landed all twelve triples cleanly at the 2019–20 Grand Prix Final.

She currently holds the world records for the highest total and short program scores, as well as the junior world record for the highest short program score, in ladies' skating.

Kostornaia is currently the sixth highest ranked ladies' singles skater in the world by the International Skating Union following the 2019–20 figure skating season.
