About Zagreb

FER is located in the capital and the largest city of Croatia, Zagreb. It is located in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Zagreb is a city with a rich history dating from the Roman times to the present day.

The Zagreb Cathedral on Kaptol is a Roman Catholic institution and not only the tallest building in Croatia but also the most monumental sacral building in Gothic style southeast of the Alps.It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and to kings Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus.
The colourful Church of St. Mark is one of the oldest buildings in Zagreb and of its symbols. It is first mentioned in the list of parish churches in the Kaptol Statute of 1334.

Gornji Grad (Upper Town) is one of the districts of Zagreb, located in the central part of the city. It has medieval in ambience and includes most of the oldest parts of Zagreb and many of the main sights in Zagreb – St Mark Church, Lotrscak Tower, The Croatian Parliament and the city’s Cathedral.

The Zagreb Funicular (Croatian: Zagrebačka uspinjača) is the funicular in Zagreb, situated in Tomić Street, connecting the Ilica Street (Donji Grad) with Strossmayerovo šetalište (Strossmayer promenade) to the north (Gornji Grad). Its 66-metre (217 ft) track makes it one of the shortest public-transport funiculars in the world. The funicular was built in 1890 and has been in operation since April 23, 1893.

One of the most beautiful and certainly the best loved of the Zagreb’s so-called green squares is the popular Zrinjevac. Plane trees create a special romantic atmosphere which simply urges you to take your loved one by the arm, happy to be together, but also happy to be here, in Zagreb, and in such a beautiful square. The atmosphere is complemented by water fountains and a music pavilion.
