The Volkswagen Polo has just celebrated its 50th birthday & VW have decided to call their upcoming EV the ID.POLO (was ID.2all / ID.2 / ID.GTI.

Volkswagen Group has launched 4 new models on the new MEB+ FWD platform at the IAA Mobility show, with the ID.POLO / ID.POLO GTI, ID.CROSS Concept, Cupra Raval & the Škoda Epiq. The recently released ID.1 Concept also based on this new platform was present at the show!

Current ID vehicles use the MEB RWD platform, which has proven popular and is the basis for some excellent cars like the ID.7, Cupra Tavascan and even the Ford Explorer EV. A FWD platform was missing from the range & it makes sense for VW to have one as most of their ICE cars are FWD, somewhat adding to the disconnect people feel with the ID vehicles.

Volkswagen are clearly trying to get their new range of petrol, hybrid & EVs to have a more coherent design largely thanks to head designer Andreas Mindt, who kindly features in my video for an interview, confirming the designs of the concepts are at least 80% of how the production vehicles will look.

At the IAA Mobility Show, VW Group certainly made their presence known, with VW, Škoda, Cupra & new American brand Scout all on show.
