Mambo! ~ Gustavo Dudamel Live from Caracas - 2007

The young musicians of the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela and their conductor Gustavo Dudamel invite the worldwide TV audience to an exceptional concert from the newly opened Concert Hall in Caracas. A rousing choice of Venezuelan and Latin-American classics is to be experienced through the compositions of Perez Prado, Arturo Marquez, Silvestre Revueltas and Astor Piazzolla. Nowadays, the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra is regarded as a sensation in classical music. The Venezuelan youth orchestra consists of graduates of the unique Venezuelan music education system. The result is an incredibly virtuoso and passionate orchestra sound. The conductor Gustavo Dudamel is a "child" of this system. The members of the Venezuelan Brass Ensemble, which was founded in 2003, are also from the midst of this orchestra. They play two pieces composed by their own musicians. Alexis Cárdenas' ensemble consists of eight of the best-known musicians of Venezuela. They play a mixture of improvised virtuosity and tender melancholy of the various Venezuelan folk music traditions. The repertoire flows from the stirring Joropo across Venezuelan waltzes to the Merengue.
