Learn about compound paths and how to troubleshoot them in Illustrator. The better solution to the problem shown here is to redraw the path from scratch, but I'll use it to show you why there is an issue and an alternate way of solving it to retain the symmetry and to fix the uneven sides. This is explained as a troubleshooting and learning exercise - not because it is the best solution to this particular issue.
