2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - The best in subcompact luxury

Some luxury subcompact crossovers feel like watered-down versions of their larger stablemates. The new Evoque manages to stand out on its own, despite its connection to the legendary Range Rover.

The Evoque comes in a few different flavors, most easily distinguished by their powertrains. Some employ only a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, while others pair that engine with a 48-volt battery for a mild-hybrid system. We tested the former (known as the P250), and it produces 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. the hybrid P300 trims make 296 hp and 295 lb-ft, but don’t fair any better in terms of fuel economy. P250 Evoques see 20 mpg city, 27 highway, 23 combined, while P300s return 21/26/23. However, both sets of trims come with Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system, featuring specific drive modes for Rock/Crawl, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, and Sand.

Land Rover has also brought its Touch Pro Duo infotainment system to all Evoque trims above the base-level S. This features twin 10-inch displays, the lower of which replaces the center-stack switchgear. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both included as standard equipment.
