A first-time patient comes in complaining of a wound and infection in her foot. Because of her diabetic neuropathy, she did not know that a nail had penetrated through the sole of her shoe and punctured her foot. It wasn't until after she had swelling, drainage, and slight pain in her foot that she realized what had happened. This type of injury is all too common in diabetic patients. Neuropathy prevents them from feeling pain, especially after slight injuries. As a result of the unknown injury, an infection can occur. Watch until the end to learn tips on how to avoid this problem.
