First Ripe Fig of the Year! Indoor I-258 Taste Test

This is a big moment—I’m tasting my first fig of 2026, and it’s an I-258 fig grown indoors.

This fig comes from a first-year tree that was air layered off my outdoor I-258 last fall. Since late October, it’s been growing under lights, and the results have been impressive. The growth has stayed steady, and the tree is already loaded with figs.

Today, I’m harvesting and tasting the first two ripe figs of the year, and I’ll share my honest thoughts on the flavor. It wasn’t exactly what I expected—but it was still really good.
