The unveiling of Opus Dei | Upfront with Katie Hannon

The Financial Times recently ran an extraordinary story about what life was like inside the secretive Catholic organisation Opus Dei for it’s lowest status members – who are known as assistant numeraries.

Margaret Joyce is from a family of 16 who was first introduced to Opus Dei when she was just 10 years old while at a weekly cookery club. By age 14 she believed she had a vocation and was working for Opus Dei at weekends and school holidays. She began working for them full time once she did her inter cert and moved into the Opus Dei centre at age 16.

Opus Dei provided the following statement in relation to the interview with Margaret Joyce: https://www.rte.ie/news/upfront/2024/0422/1445074-opus-dei-statement-in-relation-to-interview-by-former-member/
