According to Vedic calculations, a #Tithi is a lunar day in the Hindu calendar when the Moon is placed at 12 degrees east from the Sun. A Tithi or date represents one full day of a lunar month and is considered to be an essential element in a #Panchang. It is the Tithi or date that determines the occurrence of special days, festivals and anniversaries, among others. The Hindu festivals and ceremonies are marked based on the Tithi Calendar. A lunar month consists of 04 dates (Tithis). This occurs between #KrishnaPaksha (waning phase) and #ShuklaPaksha (waxing phase).

The first fifteen days come under the Shukla Paksha, and the next fifteen days come under the Krishna Paksha. A Tithi is divided into five elements called Nanda, Bhadra, Rikta, Jaya, and Purna. When the Moon is placed 12 degrees from the Sun, this is the first Tithi, also called Pratipada Tithi during Shukla Paksha. Conversely, when the Moon progresses by 180 degrees, it is known as Pournami or Full Moon. When the Moon reverses by 360 degrees, it is called Amavasya.

The calculations in #Panchang are also done according to time and place because the #Panchang which is applicable in North India is not applicable in South India, hence the #Panchang differ according to the region. But in any #Panchang, there is almost equality at the level of information. In any Panchang, there are five parts like Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karan etc. Because the information of these five parts is contained in it, it is called #Panchang. Talking about the types of #Panchang, it is of many types depending on the region and religious-cultural basis On the new year day the #Panchang is read to learn about what the ensuing year has in store for us.

The #Panchangam essentially consists of five parts of the day, viz., the name of the day, the tithi of the day, the star of the day, the #yogam of the day, and the #karanam of the day. Starting any new venture on the appropriate #tithi will fetch #iswaryam (lots of wealth and prosperity) for the person. Similarly, any deed done on the right day of the week will enhance the longevity, ie the life span of the person will increase.
