Social Closeness, coming together physically and creating safe and inclusive spaces to do so, allows us to heal from the distant and recent past, as well as experience the most crucial of all human exchanges: giving and receiving love.

The events of the last few years, as well as the hyper advancement of technology, have left people around the world feeling isolated and disconnected from each other, as well as from the natural, tactile world around them. The continuing disconnection leads to mental and emotional decline that threatens our species as a whole. Jason Corder was born in San Francisco in 1969 and is a film creator and writer, intrepid traveler, public speaker, songwriter and composer, and a graduate of Swarthmore College. Previously, he enjoyed a 20-year career as a visual artist, in which he was awarded a Ballinglen Fellowship and was a Sovereign European Art Prize Nominee. Having spent more than two decades living abroad, in Africa and Europe, he’s brought this global perspective back home in order to deepen dialogue and heighten perception. A full-time single father, he lives with his three sons in Arizona. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
