Your Hand Grip Predicts How Long You Live (Test Yourself)

Your grip strength is falling by roughly 10% every decade from age 50. Most seniors have no idea — because grip strength is not part of a routine GP check. A meta-analysis of 42 studies confirmed that people with low grip strength have a 67% higher risk of dying early from all causes. Dr. Darryl Leong, cardiologist at McMaster University, calls it ‘a strong marker of risk for future clinical outcomes, most notably premature death.’
Agnes was 74. Two years of hands getting quietly weaker. Jars she used to open. Bags that felt too heavy. She had dismissed it as aging. It is not aging. It is a warning. I showed her three chair exercises. Within three weeks her hands were stronger than they had been in years.
A February 2026 study confirmed that grip strength predicts longer life even among seniors who do not meet aerobic exercise guidelines. These three exercises are built on exactly that research. Done from your chair. Nothing needed but a folded towel.

Type AGNES in the comments if any exercise needs modifying for arthritic hands, a wrist injury or reduced hand sensation. Every comment is personally read and answered.
