Building the Titan .60 Glow Plug Engine #12

In this video I heat treat the partly machined piston before carrying out the final sizing to fit the cylinder liner. This process is called normalising and it helps to ensure that any residual stresses in the cast iron piston are relieved. I used my metal casting furnace to bring the part up to a dull red heat and the residual heat in the furnace prevents the cast iron from chilling and going so hard it cannot be machined.
I also tackle the machining of the venturi in the forward end of the crankcase. This required some tricky fixturing to ensure the cast venturi could be turned on the lathe with the fixture attached to the faceplate.
I have also been able to contact the current owner of the Titan patterns from which new castings could be made.
Enjoy!
