'Thesis Research & Planning'
Course Objective:
• Learn research methods that can guide their workflow for their thesis projects
• Implement these methods within a small group project and presentation at the end of the module
• Break down their thesis project ideas into a single question
• Understand the challenges that come with putting together a thesis and receive guidance on how to avoid common pitfalls
• Gain a clearer understanding of their thesis aim through one on one session with their thesis adviser
Course Description:
The session will be devoted to an intensive exploration of the concrete challenges arising in the context of thesis projects. In particular, the group will explore writing and information/data collection strategies, styles of argumentation, and other challenges that arise toward the end of a thesis, such as supplementary data collection, integration of multi‐media information, and identification of potential audiences. There will also be discussion of problems such as the use of quantitative data and an overview of interview based procedures for gathering information. Students will also present their group projects that involve many of the skills they will need to use for their thesis in order to gain a real‐life understanding of the structure needed for long‐term research and analysis. Through mini‐lectures, one on one discussions as well as group discussion and analysis, students will gain a much clearer idea of how to proceed with their thesis projects that are due upon completion of the EMBA.
