He Built a Pig Shelter For Free (Vlog)
We are moving our forest pasture pigs once again. Raising pigs has been more fun than anticipated. The pigs are turning up the ground as a part of the process of creating silvopasture on our forested acreage. The pigs are integral in our plan to create a permaculture farm from a forest.
I did not expect pigs to be this clean or efficient! They keep their waste away from their daily activities and they LOVE tilling up the ground. This breed of pig (Ossabow/Berkenshire) is a great forager and tills up the land so much.
We use a poly wire electric fence system to move the pigs around. This system has been simple and flexible for us. Even when there is a mishap it is never an emergency. The pigs are well trained to the wire.
Our adventure in growing our own food is bringing lots of joy and new knowledge.

We are Jenny and Dominic and we moved from BC to Nova Scotia in Summer 2020 to learn to grow our own food. We are trying to live more sustainably and stop throwing away so much spoiled produce. We are releasing a vlog every Sunday to share what we have accomplished in the world of growing food (and a little of life in Nova Scotia).
If you want to follow along to see what it is like trying to be Canadian Homesteaders, drop a comment and introduce yourself below!
