The human impact of surplus redistribution | Moldova 2026

It’s difficult to fully describe the emotional impact of visits like this. Not because the need is hidden. In many ways, it’s painfully visible.

But because no report, photograph or conversation can fully prepare you for sitting in the homes of people trying to hold life together under incredibly difficult circumstances.

Recently our team, trustees and ambassadors have been spending time with local partners and communities in Moldova, hearing directly from people whose lives have been shaped by conflict, poverty and displacement.

During the visit, we were also joined by the British Ambassador for Moldova, Fern Horine, as we visited Ukrainian refugees and saw first hand how quality surplus goods donated by businesses in the UK are reaching people who genuinely need them.

For some, it was emotional.
For others, shocking.
For many, a very real demonstration of just how important practical support can be.

From clothing and essentials to practical everyday items, this is what circularity looks like in practice: good products, kept in use and reaching people instead of going to waste.

It was also a powerful reminder of what can happen when businesses, charities and local partners work together with trust, humanity and a shared sense of purpose.

Thank you to our partners Hope4 and JDC in Moldova for welcoming us and for the incredible work you continue to do every day.
