11:00 Our favorite blogging platform to use
When you're selecting the best blogging platform for you, you would want to keep in mind the ease of use, how beginner friendly the platform is, the available features, and how much room you have to grow.
Our primary recommendation is a WordPress.org site for your maximum control, breadth of features, and thousands of themes to style your site. However, with that control, you are in charge of maintenance, updates, and backups of your site.
Wix has plenty of built in functionality, is a fully hosted platform, and has dozens of templates. They do have the negatives of showing their branding on your site, their ads on your site, and making it difficult to move away from their platform should you decide to move in the future.
WordPress.com is a hosted platform of WordPress that gives you similar tools to a WordPress.org site with some limitations as they manage a large portion of the maintenance and upkeep of the site. THe drawback being you can't run ads and you don't own your blog so if you violate their posting guidelines then they can remove your site.
Blogger is a Google product that is free to use and blog on which means it has the security tools of Google themselves. However, it has limited features and Google has been known to stop supporting different products of theirs in the past.
Tumblr is a micro blogging service that's free and easy to use and integrated with social media from the start. Similar to blogger there are limited features and it is difficult to migrate your content to another platform as needed.
Medium is geared for specifically writing for free and shares your articles with writers in their network. This limits the features available, limits you to Medium's audience, and you can't monetize the site easily.
Squarespace allows you to build a site with drag and drop features, ecommerce compatibility, and beautiful templates. They do have limited features and integrations available and limit you to 20 pages.
Ghost is the minimalist blogging platform that helps you to focus on writing with a clutter free interface. There is a lack of customizations, integrations, and themes, and it is a difficult installation if you are not using their specific hosting.
Finally, there is Weebly with a drag and drop interface that hosts everything for you with their different plans. Like some of the other platforms there are few features, third-party integrations, and migrating to a different service can be difficult.
