MHW: Iceborne – Tempered Ruiner Nergigante | Lance – 3'59"78 (TA Wiki Rules)

Wanted to take a little break from the endgame monsters, so I went to brush up on my Tempered Ruiner Nergigante matchup with post-Fatalis gear. It didn't really turn out to be a break because counting thrusts to keep track of Nergigante's spike cycles is equally as difficult.

That moment after the hunt when you check your map and see that you've finally achieved your goal (3:5x:xx in my case) is something you'll never forget; it makes the hundreds of failed attempts all worth it!

My build is at 4:11. I took Evade Window 3 because Nergigante's roars landing outside of my guard angle was driving me crazy. If the Lancer's positioning isn't perfect—which mine is definitely not—then Nergigante's roars will often end up behind the shield. This problem is exacerbated by its enragement roar, where Nergigante shoots its head forward, and its general tendency to cover the Lancer with its body slams. Having Evade Window 3 served as an "Ace in the hole" to use to hop through its roars when my positioning wasn't optimal. You can see it come in handy at 1:57.
