Being Sustainable is not Enough!... towards Regenerative Urbanism | CHINTAN RAVESHIA | TEDxTiESG
CRAFTING THE FUTURE CITIES :Being Sustainable is Not Enough
We have reached a point where simply ‘being sustainable’ in the way we live, work and consume, while keeping to current levels of rapid urbanisation and economic activity, is not going to help us avoid the worst impacts of climate change. According to Chintan Raveshia, who leads the Southeast Asian Cities team at Arup, we need to do much more. Governments, city planners and designers need to band together in a collective and concerted effort – from the top-down and bottom-up – to rethink our design approach and work towards being restorative. One way is to “stop building more roads for cars, and start designing streets for people,” says Chintan, a seemingly slight perception change that has a huge potential for positive economic, environmental and social impacts. Cities Leader South East Asia, Arup | Cities Expert
Chintan is an architect and an urban designer who is rethinking the future of our cities in this climate emergency era. He leads the Cities team at Arup for South East Asia. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
