Many couples are in relationships based on need not want. This need fosters dependency which tends to promote the continuance of relationships out of fear. In this video, we’re going to talk about couple dependency and fear, how to identify it, and what you can do about it.
Couples dependency is a common pattern seen in relationships in many different people with all sorts of issues, concerns, and fears. BPD is included. This become that inferno we talked about when both partners have BPD, full disorder or traits.
Relationships are often reinforcers for how we see and value ourselves. Dependency thrives in an environment when you have low sense of worth and feel that you need the other to fulfill what you don’t have. It plays into the old myth of finding a partner who gives you what you lack. The problem with this is that it creates dependency.
Changing your relationship dependency is not easy. It takes time. Be patient with yourself and sometimes asking yourself these questions can be hard and scary. That’s normal and it’s ok to be scared, it means you’re about to do something really brave.
