বিশ্ব হিন্দু পরিষদের ডাকে শিলিগুড়িতে সোমবার বনধের ডাক দেওয়া হয়েছিল আগেই। শুক্রবার মাটিগাড়া এলাকায় দুই গোষ্ঠীর মধ্যে সংঘর্ষের ঘটনায় শহরজুড়ে উত্তেজনা ছড়ায়। এই ঘটনার প্রতিবাদে এবং দোষীদের গ্রেপ্তারের দাবিতে সোমবার শিলিগুড়ি শহরে বনধের ডাক দেয় বিশ্ব হিন্দু পরিষদ। তবে বনধ বিফল করতে এ দিন পথে নামছে তৃণমূল ছাত্র পরিষদ। গরমের ছুটির পর সোমবারই খুলে যাচ্ছে সমস্ত স্কুল ও কলেজ। ফলে বনধ ঘিরে শহরে অশান্তি ছড়ানোর আশঙ্কা থাকছেই। রবিবার সকাল থেকে শিলিগুড়ি শহরের পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে রয়েছে। হিলকার্ট রোড ও সেবক রোডসহ শহরের প্রধান রাস্তাগুলোয় যান চলাচল স্বাভাবিক। অটো, টোটো, বাস এবং ট্রেন চলাচল স্বাভাবিক দেখা গেছে। বাজারগুলোর মধ্যে কিছু খোলা থাকলেও রেগুলেটেড মার্কেট সম্পূর্ণ বন্ধ রয়েছে। দোকানপাট কিছু কিছু খোলা থাকলেও পুরোপুরি স্বাভাবিক হয়নি। পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গিয়েছে, সোমবার বনধ ঘিরে শহরে প্রচুর পুলিশ মোতায়েন আছে। মাটিগাড়া, চম্পাসারি, শালুগাড়া, তুম্বাজোত ও আশপাশের সংবেদনশীল এলাকাগুলিতে বিশেষ নজর রাখা হবে।
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad had already called for a bandh in Siliguri on Monday. The city has been tense since Friday’s clash between two groups in the Matigara area. In protest of the incident and demanding the arrest of the culprits, the VHP called for the shutdown. However, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad has announced it will take to the streets to foil the bandh. Monday also marks the reopening of schools and colleges after the summer break, raising fears of unrest surrounding the shutdown. As of Sunday morning, the situation in Siliguri remains under control. Major roads including Hill Cart Road and Sevoke Road have seen normal vehicular movement. Auto-rickshaws, totos, buses, and trains are running as usual. While some markets are partially open, the Regulated Market remains completely shut. Shops across the city are open sporadically but the situation hasn’t fully returned to normal. Police sources confirm that a large deployment of police will be in place across the city on Monday to manage the bandh. Special attention will be given to sensitive areas such as Matigara, Champasari, Salugara, Tumbajote, and surrounding localities.
