You don’t have to know Popeye Pete’s story to see that he’s suffered—the pictures say it all. After being attacked by another dog in his own home, this sweet pup was surrendered to the shelter with a devastating eye injury. The moment we saw him, our hearts shattered, and we knew we had to help, no matter the cost.
When Popeye Pete arrived, his remaining eye was literally bulging from his skull. He was already missing one eye before this attack, and now he faces losing the other. As soon as he was safe in our care, our veterinarians confirmed that emergency surgery is the only way to save him from unbearable pain—but it will leave him completely blind.
It’s impossible to imagine how confusing, frightening, and painful this must be for him, yet through it all, Popeye Pete remains the most playful, gentle, and joyful boy. We are doing everything in our power to help Popeye Pete heal, but the cost of his care has been overwhelming.
