Why Child Migrants Are At the Heart Of US-Mexico Border Crisis

As the new US President, Joe Biden promised to dismantle Trump administration's policies, governing asylum seekers who arrive at the southern border, the US-Mexico border in Texas has witnessed a surge of migrants from Mexico and Central America since February, giving rise to 'humanitarian crisis'. In February 2021, the US Border Patrol agents detained more than 100,000 migrants, mostly children. With more than 16,000 unaccompanied children in government custody, the situation is leading to a humanitarian crisis and the future of hundreds of thousands of children and their families remain uncertain.
