This spike has ignited nationwide protests and student-led campus demonstrations, with many calling out the government’s inaction and police failure. Rights groups describe the situation as a “pandemic-level crisis,” citing over 4,700 rape cases since 2020 — nearly half involving minors. In response, authorities now promise district-level response teams and stricter surveillance in schools and madrasas.
